Bamboo

The Story

We utilized bamboo yarn, ingeniously interweaving the depicted theme with the processing method itself. Since our completion deadline was June, the beginning of the summer season, the choice of bamboo seemed quite self-evident. The majority of this month’s sock exhibit will be on display on Sockfellow feet. Thanks to its airy and cooling properties, bamboo yarn will offer heavenly comfort to all curators of this summer’s exposition.

The concept of this month’s sock design also relates to the unorthodox material of choice. While bamboo is extensively used by people, no creature enjoys this tall grass more than the giant panda. This iconic member of the Ursidae family even gave up its carnivoreness and filled its menu entirely with bamboo and, in fact, its calendar as well, since the low nutritional value of a green diet requires an adult panda to devour over 20 kilograms of bamboo daily, a feat which will take up most of its waking hours.

Sock owners thus need not fear that their sock specimens could cause a starvation pandemic. Fortunately, bamboo is the fastest-growing plant on Earth. If people describe watching grass grow as boring, then watching bamboo grow is less boring on account of the latter transpiring faster.

There are relatively few of these black-and-white furballs left in the world. One of the principal causes is the species’ low interest in coupling. While scientists have not yet agreed on the cause, I have cracked this case long ago. To expect passionate eruptions of affection from these icons of black and white would be utterly misguided. A quick look into the pandamonium of colours that is a Sockfellow’s sock drawer will immediately prove to you that colourful coupling is much more enjoyable.

Material

Eighty percent of the sock is made up of bamboo viscose and complemented by five percent cotton and five percent polyamide. We have added both these ingredients to improve resistance against bear wear and tear.

The remaining ten percent of the socks contains Lycra and polypropylene. The latter ingredient ensures high tensile strength, while the former contributes with greater elasticity and antibacterial protection.

Wishing you an enjoyably coupled month of June,
Hubert Sockworth,
Your Sock Secretary
